Haruyoshi is an area in-between Tenjin and Canal City Hakata, a restaurant war zone where shops stuffed in every narrow alleyway and business building. This shop is just a street off of the high-traffic national highway, where the atmosphere is a complete 180 from the Tenjin area, with a calm and subdued atmosphere.
Here at “Hakata Matsusuke”, prep work such as skewering is done by hand; they’re famous for their meticulous craftsmanship and unique yakitori. For first time visitors we recommend the “Matsusuke Creative Yakitori Set” with Matsusuke House Meatball, Wrapped Mozzarella Tomato, Lamb Chop, Snapper, Foie Gras, and Cheese Of The Day, and the “Fresh Chicken Kushiyaki Set” that features a variety of chicken parts such as the Matsusuke House Meatball, thighs, breast, gizzard, tail fat, and liver. The “Matsusuke House Meatball” is made by blending ground chicken, neck skin, and cartilage. This tender, juicy house specialty is only available here.
Other items to note: “Hakata Torodama”, “Duck and Zucchini”, and “Wagyu Filet”, each drizzled with special sauces like buttered anchovy, pesto, and blue cheese; all are unlikely, imaginative finds at a yakitori joint that pair beautifully with wine.
