A Old-Timer Who Started The Hakata Classic “Cabbage With Vinegar Sauce”
June 23, 2017 10:00
“Tenka No Yakitori Nobuhide” started out as a food stall in 1964. Cabbage, which is ubiquitous in Hakata yakitori shops, was first served by founder Hideo Yasuoka who saw it in a kushiage shop in Osaka, as roughage to nibble on between orders. He felt that cabbage tasted better with ponzu (citrus soy) than sauce and served it in his shop, where it was a hit. This Hakata-style yakitori is now seen all over the country.
Yakitori, the main event, is made of fresh ingredients, artfully cooked over charcoal. Perusing over the many items that line the counter will make anyone giddy with excitement. It’s easy to lose yourself in their large menu, but a must-try is the “Pork Belly Wrapped Tomato”. A fairly common item nowadays, but it all started here! The menu continues to grow to this day because the owner wants to share anything that he finds tasty with his customers.
“Tenka No Yakitori Nobuhide” is very close to Hakataza Theater, and is favored by many actors who holds residency there. The shop is decorated with many pictures of their celebrity guests, and has a cheery feel to it.
