“Hakata Ningyo Kaikan Shogetsudo” is located in Nakasu, the biggest entertainment district in Kyushu, along the Hakata River since 1947. There are many Hakata dolls made by young artists to master craftsmen.

The store is on the first floor of the brown building on the left front.

There are more than 500 dolls in the store.

Hakata Dolls are designated as a traditional craft by the country. What is unique about Hakata Dolls is that it is fired in a mold and colors are put on directly.

“Nohmono” expressed the dancing scene of Noh and Kabuki. It looks like it is about to move.

“Bushimono” It is modeled after a samurai of Kuroda-han, who was an expert at spear.

“Domono” are cute dolls that expressed the way children play.

Dolls of Hind and Hakaya Gion Yamagasa are called “Kisetumono”.

They sell Hakataori goods in the shop. There are many items that are reasonably priced so they are great for souvenirs.

Let’s paint them!

First, you pick the unglazed doll in Taiken area in the shop. They are 2160 yen, 2700 yen, and 3240 yen and up depending on the doll.

Here are dolls for 2160 yen each.

There are ones like this! (Ninja for 2500 yen).

After picking your doll, let’s start coloring.

The clay absorbs the water, the pain dries quickly.

Use toothpick for detailed work.

When it is done, take a picture in front of the golden folding screen. It is nice that you can take home what you made.

It was made by a mother and her child from Korea. They are all unique.
