If you want eat fish in Fukuoka, go to “Fukuoka City Fish Market, Shijo Kaikan”. The popular menu is the set meal at “Okiyo”.

On the first floor of “Fukuoka City Fish Market, Shijo Kaikan”, there are restaurants, such as a diner, conveyer sushi, and Chinese food. General public can use the restaurants.


This place is like a face of Shijo Kaikan and loved by many people. Currently, the second-generation hostess, Marika Takashima is managing the place. Her smile is as great as the first hostess and loved by the customers.

The restaurant is located in the back of the building. The curtain that says “o” “ki” “yo” and showcase displayed outside of the store is a scenery that is unique in Japan. In the restaurant, there are many autographs of famous people. It makes you excited about how good the food is going to be. Menu in foreign language (Korean/Chinese/English) is available.

About the menu, there are more than 30 dishes all the time. “Saba no Misoni (mackerel cooked in miso) meal”, “Katsuo no Tataki (seared bonito) meal”, “Fried Amadai (tilefish) Meal”, “Hamo tempura meal”, and “sesami buri (yellow tail)” (all 700 yen for lunch, 850 yen for dinner), “Whale Sashimi meal” (800 yen for lunch, 850 yen for dinner) and many others. Seasonal fish meal is the main menu in this place. The popular ones are “Sashimi meal” (1500 for lunch and dinner), “Aradaki meal” (800 yen for lunch, 850 yen for dinner), and “Kaisendon (rice bowl with sashimi and seafood) (1800 yen for lunch and dinner).

What you cannot forget is the local dish of Fukuoka “Goma Saba (sesame mackerel)” (700 yen for lunch, 850 yen for dinner). Meat dish like “Chicken namban meal” and “Chicken karaage meal” (700 yen each for lunch and 850 yen for dinner) are popular among workers in the market. There are people who come here for the signature dish “Saba shabu” (2 servings from 2000 yen).

If you want to taste many different things, you can order the dish only (100 yen less from the meal). Meals and rice bowls have bottomless rice (self-service) so you can eat until you are full. “Okiyo’s special sauce” (600 yen) used in “Goma saba” and “Kaisendon” are sold at the store so it is great for a souvenir. It goes great not only for fish, but also for meat or vegetable. Also try “Yuzugosho-kun” (1300 yen) that has addicting scent of yuzu and spiciness of red pepper.
