Waribori (canal) is the symbol of the water town, Yanagawa. It is one of the most famous water town in the world with 60km long canals runs across 2km square in the city center.

There are 4 companies that operates Kawakudari in Yanagawa. Fee is 1500 to 1600 yen for adults. They have children’s price too.

The red storage houses side by side is made in Meiji period. Uchibori course turns to the left right before these buildings.

The normal Kawakudari course goes to Waribori from the river through Yanagawa castle water gate. This water gate is almost as big as the donkobune (boat). The boat goes under many bridges.

↑There is a store on water in the middle of this course. You can buy drinks like amazake and snacks without getting off the boat.

↑ “Machiboke” statue made by Isao Nishijima, a designer that represents Hakata. Sometime, the boatman sings “Machiboke” song around here.

There are a lot of seasonal fun

↑In the fall, the trees around the course starts to change color.

It is a characteristic of Kawakudari that there are many seasonal things you can enjoy throughout the year.

From early February to mid-April, there is “Yanagawa Hina Festival Sagemon meguri”. With the festival, they have “Ohinasama Parade on Water” in mid-March. From mid-July to early September, noryo boat called “Akaribune” is available (must make reservation). It is a popular seasonal event that goes around the course that is lit up after sunset.

■Ohinasama Parade on Water (Sunday in mid-March)
During “Ohinasama Parade on Water”, “Zagemon” are hand over the water. The scenery enjoyed from Kawakudari is even more exciting.

■Yanagawa Akaribune (Late July to mid-September)
Noryo boat in the summer where you can enjoy fantastic Kawakuari at night.

Festival on water to cherish Hakushu Kitahara, who passed away on November 2nd, 1942.

■Kotatsu boat （December to the end of February）
Each company has donkobune that has kotatsu (table with heater) with hibachi in the winter only.
