There are a lot of delicious food in Fukuoka, such as Ramen, Motsunabe, and Mizutaki! Di you know that grilled oyster is one of them in the winter?

■Hirochan Kaki
We visited “Hirochan Kaki” in Kafuri Fishing Port located at the west base of Itoshima Peninsula.

The outside looks like this. It is prefab building since it is open limited time only.

Here is the inside.

At “Hirochan Kaki”, you order from the signs on the wall or table on the menu. Oyster platter starts from 1000 yen.

Or, I found a better deal! 5 oyster, 2 turban shells, 4 clams, 2 shrimps, and oyster rice for 2000 yen. It’s a great deal!

Here are tools that are necessary for grilling oyster.

Medium size oysters are grilled on the flat side for 2 to 3 minutes. After that, flip it and check inside when it opens. It is time to eat when the meat turns white.

　

When you slurp it up, flavor of the sea and umami spread in your mouth.

Oysters and clams are already delicious as it is, but you can season it with soy sauce (at “Hirochan Kaki”, they use “Kanoo Shoyu” made by a brewer in Kafuri), lemon ponzu, or salt.

Put the empty shell in to the trash can (plastic bucket) placed under the table. You can keep the table uncluttered if you throw them away as you eat.

After you enjoyed grilled seafood, check the side menu. How about “miso soup with blue crab” (250 yen)? It has great soup stock!

“Oyster ajillo”(540 yen) is also popular. Oysters in the shack and oysters at home. Winter in Fukuoka is filled with oysters!
