December 14, 2017 16:00
The only aquarium in Fukuoka prefecture, "Marine World Uminonakamichi" was opened in 1989. It is located in Uminonakamichi Marine National Park with the area of 540ha.
Enter from the entrance on the second floor, and go to "the sea near Kyushu" on the third floor. The coast line of Kyushu is diverse. There are many characteristics of the sea with the effect of the ocean current. Here is the "Genkainada Tank (Fukuoka)", a new symbol of the renewal. With the wave hitting the tank, you can feel the strength of the ocean creatures such as small fish swimming in the wave and large fish that stay in the bottom such as longtooth grouper and pearl-spot chromis.
"Open Ocean Tank" is is 7m deep, located from 1st to 2nd floor with 24m width. It recreated the ocean of the remote island of Kyushu. The school of 20,000 sardines will change it shape surrealistically. The speed of 20 types, over 20,000 fish is impressive. 50 sharks in 15 kinds in the large tank is also spectacular.
Penguins' Hill is newly built in Creature Island outside of the first floor. In addition to dolphins, seals, and seal lions, you can see cute penguin living on land and in water.
In Coral Reefs of Amami, you can see beautiful coral reefs in Amami island recreated in the 15 small and large tanks. Also, "Aso: A Water-nurturing Forest" recreates spring water of Kumamoto, where has over 1,000 sources in the prefecture, "Jellyfish of Kyushu" that produced a fantastic world of jellyfish with light and sound, "Kyushu's Deep Ocean Waters" displays the creature that evolved in a harsh environment of low temperature, high pressure, and low oxygen.
In "Sea Otter Pool" located on the second floor, you can observe sea otters float, dive, and eat on the water.
You can also enjoy a meal while you watch the dolphines swimming in Show Pool and the blue ocean. "Domestic beef teppan hamburger steak" (with rice, 1,200 yen), "Roast beef bowl" (1150 yen), "Vegetable curry" (880 yen), "Dolphine parfait" (680 yen) "Parfait-ttai" (450 yen), "Tri-color cotton candy" (480 yen)
