“We have a fresh one!” “How about trying one!” Most of the souvenir shop on the both sides of the street leading to Tenmangu grille Umegaemochi and shopkeepers yells cheerfully to call in customers. Azuki bean paste is surrounded by a thin mochi and there is a mark of plum in a round shape in the center.

When you head to Tenmangu from Nishitetsu Dazaifu Station, the first store you see grilling Umegaemochi is “Yorozuya”. They do everything by hand from knead the dough and cooking not so sweet bean paste.

“Oishichaya” is located in the north of Tenmangu main temple in the very back. It has over 100 years of history. It has a great atmosphere outside and inside with earth floor with raised tatami floor (table seat is also available).
